Hi, a client ranks for a few product keywords but the traffic goes to the PDF file. We are using WordPress. They’re not an e-commerce site. The site just showcases the products they have – with images, descriptions, and brochure (pdf).
  1. Is it ok that the traffic goes to the PDF link?
  2. Should we index these PDFs?
  3. How can we still rank for those keywords if we deindex the PDFs?
Thank you!

  1. Hello, Thank you so much for getting in touch.

You need to check if the traffic is going directly to the PDF or the attachment page of said PDF.

This is important because if the traffic is going to the attachment page, at the very least you should redirect that to the actual PDF with the help of this: https://rankmath.com/kb/redirect-attachments-to-the-media-url/

As is explained in the article, if this is not implemented it might be possible that the traffic is going directly to the attachment which seems what’s happening on your website.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
