Hey guys I just hired a content writer/copywriter. So far it’s been going really well so I brought them in-house.

My question is what is a reasonable amount of words per day to expect from the writer?

I don’t want to push them too hard but at the same time, I want to keep them busy as they are now working full time on a salary.

  1. Hello, Thank you so much for getting in touch.

The number of words you can expect from your writers will depend on the type of article, niche, and the level of research needed for the topic.

Having said that, you could expect a number between 500-1500 words depending on the factors mentioned above.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

  2. I’d say a contract based work would be better in this field. Why?

There are some special frameworks that can drive tons of backlinks, if the reach-out is good enough. I know about 7 types. Each of them requires different amount of time.

And then for regular blog posts, there are again some frameworks. These generally takes less time to complete.

So if the writer works on different frameworks with different goals, you should not judge by the word count, rather by the value they’re creating.

That said, I generally pay my writers in 2 different scales.

  3. If you’re getting 500-1500 that’s way too low.

Expect between 2000-4000/day. That’s what I’m getting from my writers right now.

Sometimes they’re in the zone and get up to 4k, others they spend more time researching and only do 2k. Anything less than that is a problem though.

  4. Full time, it is reasonable to ask for 2k/day. I wouldn’t ask for much more if you want well-researched quality articles. Once the research is done, it can absolutely be easier to write double that in a day if the article(s) are on the same topic, but a lot of research (should) goes into writing quality articles. If quality is important, set the target at 2k; if not, I’d only set it a tad higher at 3k. Writing an article that makes sense and is on topic still takes time.

  5. I am a full-time content writer/copywriter, I produce 3 articles per day of 2000 words each for my client, the pay is very good so I also sacrifice a lot and still looking for more work.

  6. It depends on the difficulty level of the topic.

As a freelance writer, if it is a familiar topic, I spend about 2 hours writing 1000 words.

If I have to do thorough research, it could take between 5-6 hours to write 1000 words of original content on the topic.

So, I’d say 1500-2000 words is a reasonable range to expect from your writers.

  7. I feel 800 words minimum is cool for SEO.

Is it more engaging than just impacting of knowledge, How-tos and Know-how? Then 500 words can be managed per post

  8. I used to work as a copywriter for several marketing and ad agencies. By today’s standards I’d expect a competent blog to be at least 1,000 words (roughly ten paragraphs), with at least 2 outward links and 2 internal links to other blogs.
